Keep your pup safe (and happy) during spooky season!
Halloween is just around the corner β pumpkins, costumes, and treats are popping up everywhere!
But while we humans can enjoy all the sweet fun, our furry friends need a little extra care this time of year.
At Barkly Treats, we feel itβs our duty to remind every dog parent:
π« Chocolate is toxic for dogs β even in small amounts.
πΆ Why chocolate is dangerous for dogs
Chocolate contains substances called theobromine and caffeine, both of which are part of a group known as methylxanthines.
Dogs canβt metabolise these chemicals as efficiently as humans can, meaning even a little chocolate can quickly build up in their system.
This can lead to symptoms like:
-
Vomiting and diarrhoea
-
Restlessness or hyperactivity
-
Rapid breathing or increased heart rate
-
Tremors, seizures, or worse in severe cases
The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is β dark and baking chocolates contain the highest levels of theobromine.
πΈοΈ Keep Halloween safe for your pup
Here are a few simple ways to make sure your dog stays safe (and happy) this Halloween:
β
Keep sweets out of reach β store candy bowls and treat bags high up or in closed containers.
β
Watch out for wrappers β foil and plastic can be just as harmful if swallowed.
β
Educate the family β remind little ones that βsharing chocolateβ isnβt kind for dogs.
β
Treat them to something safe β stock up on natural, dog-friendly snacks (weβve got you covered there!).
𦴠The fun doesnβt have to stop!
Just because chocolate is off-limits doesnβt mean your pup canβt join in the Halloween excitement.
Barklyβs natural, single-protein treats make the perfect alternative β all the fun, none of the fright.
π And hereβs a little surprise:
All orders placed until October 30 will receive a Spooky Mystery Gift, free with your order!
