Keep your pup safe (and happy) during spooky season!
Halloween is just around the corner โ pumpkins, costumes, and treats are popping up everywhere!
But while we humans can enjoy all the sweet fun, our furry friends need a little extra care this time of year.
At Barkly Treats, we feel itโs our duty to remind every dog parent:
๐ซ Chocolate is toxic for dogs โ even in small amounts.
๐ถ Why chocolate is dangerous for dogs
Chocolate contains substances called theobromine and caffeine, both of which are part of a group known as methylxanthines.
Dogs canโt metabolise these chemicals as efficiently as humans can, meaning even a little chocolate can quickly build up in their system.
This can lead to symptoms like:
-
Vomiting and diarrhoea
-
Restlessness or hyperactivity
-
Rapid breathing or increased heart rate
-
Tremors, seizures, or worse in severe cases
The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is โ dark and baking chocolates contain the highest levels of theobromine.
๐ธ๏ธ Keep Halloween safe for your pup
Here are a few simple ways to make sure your dog stays safe (and happy) this Halloween:
โ
Keep sweets out of reach โ store candy bowls and treat bags high up or in closed containers.
โ
Watch out for wrappers โ foil and plastic can be just as harmful if swallowed.
โ
Educate the family โ remind little ones that โsharing chocolateโ isnโt kind for dogs.
โ
Treat them to something safe โ stock up on natural, dog-friendly snacks (weโve got you covered there!).
๐ฆด The fun doesnโt have to stop!
Just because chocolate is off-limits doesnโt mean your pup canโt join in the Halloween excitement.
Barklyโs natural, single-protein treats make the perfect alternative โ all the fun, none of the fright.
๐ And hereโs a little surprise:
All orders placed until October 30 will receive a Spooky Mystery Gift, free with your order!
